Silver Medal Winner
TITLETOWN BREWING WINS MEDAL AT THE GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL
Green Bay, WI - October 15, 2008--Titletown Brewing Co. recently claimed a silver medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival Competition, the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States today. The top three winners in the competition's 75 beer-style categories were announced October 11 at the 27th Great American Beer Festival Awards Ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.
Titletown Brewing was recognized in the altbier beer-style category for its Railyard Ale, a Düsseldorf altbier characterized by assertive hop character, rich malt flavor, and crisp, dry finish. Titletown has been brewing Railyard Ale since opening in 1996. Altbier is an unusual style in that it's a hybrid between ale and lager. Titletown imports most of the malt for this brew from Germany and uses Northern German altbier yeast as well.
"I'm thrilled to bring this award back to Titletown and honored to be a winner among 472 breweries and almost 3,000 beers. I've been working on brewing altbier since my homebrewing days, and have been especially excited about it since I visited Düsseldorf, Germany in 2005. To be awarded a medal for altbier from some of the world's most discriminating judges feels very satisfying. The reception by the people at Titletown as been unbelievable; our management and customers have always been very supportive," says David Oldenburg, Titletown Brewing Co's Brewmaster.
Titletown Brewing Co. is an 1100-barrel brewpub located in Green Bay's historic 1898 Chicago & Northwestern train depot. It specializes in casual dining with a unique bistro style menu, familiar homemade pub fare, and a wide variety of fresh, hand-crafted beers. At least 10 different brews have typically been on tap since Oldenburg became Brewmaster two years ago. Completely smoke-free, locally owned and community-oriented, Titletown has come to be known as a friendly place that welcomes you by name...or by number, for the 600+ members of the "Mug Club," each with their own personal numbered mug.
While Titletown has previously received bronze medals for its beers at the World Beer Cup awards along with other local and regional awards, this was its first win at the national Denver festival. The 2008 Great American Beer Festival Competition winners were selected by an international panel of brewing experts from an impressive field of 2,900 entries received from 472 U.S. breweries. "The Great American Beer Festival is the premier judging event for the American craft beer industry," says Nancy Johnson, Festival Director.
"I'm so proud of Dave (Oldenburg), who does an amazing job brewing for us. Our guests just love his beers-each one is uniquely delicious and made with the painstaking care of our brewing team," says Brent Weycker, Titletown's president. The Great American Beer Festival has been held every year since 1982 and is presented by the Brewers Association notfor- profit educational, trade association for craft brewers.
